Multnomah County offers volunteers and a boot camp to guide enrollees

Annual enrollment for Medicare is under way, and the Multnomah County SHIBA (Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance) program is available to help people on Medicare compare their current coverage with the plans available for 2013.

Enrollment events at local libraries provide one-to-one counseling appointments for those who prefer it. “Plan Finder Boot Camp,” new this year, will focus on the Medicare online plan finder and other tools for individuals to use on their own.

“Medicare coverage is very individual, and people approach it differently,” said Janet Bowman, SHIBA coordinator. Many people would rather do their research themselves but don’t know how to use the online tools to make it easy. Our Plan Finder Boot Camp is for them, and for family members helping a loved one.”
