Join a Conversation on Aging

The Portland-area nonprofit organization VIEWS (Volunteers Involved for the Emotional Well-Being of Seniors) offers the following free Conversations on Aging during March. Older adults are invited to participate, talk about some of their concerns, receive resources and ideas, and see how helpful a discussion with peers can be.

The Elder Journey: Wednesday, March 6, 10-11:30 a.m. at the Pioneer Center, 615 Fifth St., Oregon City. Life and how we view it changes as we age. Aging brings challenges, and aging also brings gifts and wisdom to meet those challenges. Learn the 7-step Model of Successful Aging. Be part of a discussion about finding joy and meaning in life. Oregon’s Advance Directive: Tuesday, March 12, 2-3:30 p.m. at Silvercrest, 1865 N.E. Davis St., Portland. We all want our end of life decisions to be respected by our doctors and our family. How do we make sure that this happens? Learn about the power of an advance directive and how it informs others of your decision. Learn who needs to know what you want and get some ideas about how to talk with your family. Engaging with Adult Children: Tuesday, March 12, 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Milwaukie Center, 5440 S.E. Kellogg Creek Drive, Milwaukie. Relationships with children change as we age. Aging in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community: Wednesday, March 13, 12:30-2 p.m. at Metropolitan Community Church, 2400 N.E. Broadway St., Portland. Life and how we view it changes as we age. Alongside some of the challenges that aging brings we have gifts and wisdom. Be part of a discussion about finding joy and meaning. Talking with Your Doctor: Wednesday, March 13, 10-11:30 a.m. at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center, 505 G Ave., Lake Oswego. When your doctor has 15 minutes for you, what do you do when you have more than 15 minutes’ worth of health concerns? Learn how to prepare yourself for talking with a doctor or other healthcare professionals. Talk about what it would take to feel that you and your doctor are part of the same team.
