IRCO events: January 2014


The nonprofit IRCO (Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization) Senior Services offers the following support groups and other events at the East Portland Community Center, 740 S.E. 106th Ave. For more information or appointments, call Hazel or Rachel at IRCO Senior Services, 503-988-6073.

IRCO Diabetes Support Group, Monday, Jan. 6 and 20, 1-2:30 p.m. Join others age 60 and older with Type 2 diabetes for informal meetings. Led by a registered nurse. Free, for seniors 60 and older.

IRCO Foot Care Clinic, Thursday, Jan. 9 and 23. Nurse-run clinic includes foot soak, toe nail trim and file, foot massage, callous and corn sanding/smoothing, and reduction of thick fungal nails. Cost is $35; must bring own tub and towels. Call for appointment.

IRCO SHIBA Program, Tuesday, Jan. 7 and 21, 1-4 p.m., and every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon. The Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance (SHIBA) Program uses trained volunteers to help people with Medicare make health insurance decisions. Call for an appointment.

IRCO Hearing Health Day, Monday, Jan. 13. Join other seniors to learn about the causes and impacts of hearing loss, as well as treatment options, from a hearing health professional. Free hearing tests, hearing aid care and service, or discussion of anything related to hearing offered from 9:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. To make an appointment for a hearing test, call Hazel or Rachel at 503-988-6073.

IRCO Senior Law Project, Thursday afternoons. Program offers seniors the opportunity to get free legal advice from volunteer attorneys in 30-minute sessions. You must be age 60 or older or married to someone who is 60 or older; be a resident of Multnomah County or have a legal issue in Multnomah County; and be a U.S. citizen or legal resident. Call for an appointment.
