Charitable Hands, warm hearts

From Lake Oswego Adult Community Center

Every Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to noon, the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center has a very charitable group that meets called Creative Hands. They knit, purl and crochet the hours away on wonderful items they then give to those in need.

Examples of their projects include Project Linus (http://projectlinus.org/about/), an organization that provide blankets or afghans for the seriously ill that need a “blanket hug.” The Creative Hands also make hats for preemie babies at Oregon Health & Science University.

The big project they are focused on right now is to create 3,000 hat and scarf sets — yes, 3,000! The hat and scarf sets are for Fill a Stocking, Fill a Heart, an organization serving the most in need in Clackamas County. With each stocking given out at Christmas time, a hat and scarf set are included that is age and gender appropriate. The deadline for creating the hat and scarf sets for children and adults is September, so fingers will be working double time.

If you would like to join Creative Hands and provide your talents for this charitable project, come join us. We could also use any and all yarn donations — partial and full skeins of yarn, knitting needles and crochet hooks are all very much needed. Help provide someone in need with the gift of a favorite blanket, hat or scarf.
