End-of-life vigils seek volunteers; orientation June 25

Jim Pfeifer, program director for No One Dies Alone, a Signature Hospice volunteer program, is seeking more volunteers to hold end-of-life vigils for the dying.

The program's Compassionate Companions sit bedside with people who are in their final hours of life. These volunteers may read, hold a hand, play soothing music, perhaps pray with the patients. The vigils typically last 24-48 hours. Each Compassionate Companion is assigned to a shift of two to four hours.

No One Dies Alone is designed specifically for senior living facilities to ensure that patients/residents do not face their final moments of life alone.

There will be a two-hour information/orientation at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at Powell Valley Assisted Living Community, 4001 S.E. 182nd Ave., Gresham.
