Recruit for diversity and inclusion
The 17th annual Diversity Employment Day career fair and roundtables is coming up to Portland on Aug. 23.
More than 40 recruiters from OHSU to the Oregon Lottery are already signed up to participate in building a workforce that reflects and represents the community.
The diversity career fair events provide recruiters access to the nation's largest pool of diverse, multicultural and qualified professionals. It's the only career fair that targets and delivers candidates from all classes covered under the Title VII Civil Rights Act of 1964 including women, people of color, seniors, LGBTQ people and people with disabilities.
Event host City Career Fair, a women- and minority-owned company based in California, was developed to fill the need to provide companies with highly qualified, diverse candidates. The company holds more than 30 of these huge diversity career fairs nationwide, commending local diversity partners for making more than 10,000 hires.
According to its website, "it provides the most effective, solution-oriented service to clients who want face-to-face opportunities to meet with professional candidates in the most cost-effective, progressive and dynamic manner. The synergy created by its corporations overpower traditional methods of recruiting professional level candidates."
The mission is to provide corporate America with the most qualified candidates from the city, county and state's richly diverse communities with the understanding that diversity is a good business strategy.
Diverse representation gives specific attention to women, Hispanics, African-Americans, Asians, Native Americans, people with disabilities and LGBTQA markets.
This event includes more than 800 candidates from multicultural and diverse communities, people with disabilities, women, LGBTQA people, veterans and mature workers.
Beginning in Seattle in January, the event has moved through dozens of locations across the nation this year so far.
Diversity roundtables take place the morning of the career fairs, focusing on presenting a forum for different field sectors to share best practices and current trends in diversity and inclusion.
Field sector pavilions include ADA and people with disabilities, government, healthcare, high tech, security, professional and community-based organizations and veterans.
High tech recruiters include Boeing, GoDaddy Software, Intel, Microsoft, Xerox, Sony, Rolls Royce, Mercedes Benz Daimler, Nokia and Cisco Systems, among more.
Current and past exhibitors include ZGF Architects, Portland General Electric, the Port of Portland, Providence and ODOT.
In the past, more than 1,000 corporations, government entities and nonprofits have found hires here.
