May is a big month for the Beaverton Farmers Market, which opened its Winter Market several months ago but is ready to swing into its busiest season.
The Summer Market opens May 6, with an earlier start time of 8 a.m., additional vendors, a burgeoning selection of fresh produce, weekly outdoor entertainment and a children's club!
The Beaverton Community Band will perform on opening weekend (check our website each week for performance and activity schedules, as well as a list of produce expected to be ripe and ready!)
Mother's Day is Sunday, May 14, and the market is a great place to find gifts such as fresh flowers, hanging baskets, locally made wine and sweet treats. IC Confections will have their wonderful fudge and truffles. Decadent Creations always has a lovely array of cookies, pies and cakes. Zoe Anne's Cheesecakes will be back in May, and her mini cheesecakes are always a delight.
What's fresh in May? Weather permitting, we should start to see some strawberries. We now have morel mushrooms, rhubarb and asparagus in the market, all of which have just begun to arrive. You can also expect radishes, snap peas, pea shoots, beets and more.
The Market Sprouts Kids Club officially kicks off on May 27, with fun activities for the kiddos. Every child who signs up for Market Sprouts that day will get a free veggie or plant start.
Don't miss the Beaverton Farmers Market, a fun and delicious community activity that's perfect for the whole family!
