Detectives fear Bethany man abused more children
Stephen Webb faces 40 counts of sex crimes against a minor
Washington County sheriff's detective are asking for the public's help with a case involving a 44-year-old Bethany man accused of sex abuse.
"The sheriff's office is concerned there may be more victims that have been abused by Stephen Webb," said Sgt. Bob Ray, sheriff's office spokesman. "If you have any information, please call."
On Monday, Sept. 17, Webb was charged with 30 additional sex crimes against a minor child following new revelations in an ongoing investigation.
He remains lodged in the Washington County Jail with bail set at $2.25 million.
The investigation began on July 27 when detectives responded to a Bethany home to look into a report of a possible sex abuse.
After an extensive investigation and evidence processing, detectives arrested Webb. He was initially lodged in the jail on 10 charges of sex crimes against a minor child and held on $750,000 bail.
"As sheriff's detectives continued the investigation, they uncovered additional evidence that Stephen Webb committed more sex crimes," Ray said.
Webb worked for Gear Up Sports in Beaverton, "which would have provided the opportunity for him to work closely with children," Ray added, as the business provides sports gear to youth.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the sheriff's office at 503-846-2500.
