Forest Grove woman dies, driver arrested after early morning crash
A 22-year-old Aloha man faces several charges after a single-car accident early Saturday morning killed a 20-year-old Forest Grove woman on Southwest Gassner Road.
Washington County sheriffs deputies arrested Scott David Harris and charged him with second-degree manslaughter, felony hit and run, and driving while intoxicated. He was lodged in the Washington County Jail.
Deputies said Kalin Rose Morris was seriously injured in the accident and was taken to Oregon Health and Science University Hospital, where she later died.
The accident happened at about 3:39 a.m. on Gassner Road near Grabhorn Road. Deputies arriving at the accident were told that a person had fled after the crash. A search of the area failed to turn up the other person.
Deputies said Harris was driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am west on Gassner Road and apparently lost control and the car went off the road, hit a large tree and broke it in half. Morris was trapped in the car and Harris fled the area.
About two hours later, deputies found Harris walking along Southwest 209th Avenue near Farmington Road. He was suffering from minor injuries, and was treated at a local hospital before being taken into custody.
The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident.
