Pam's Party benefits Oregon Food Bank

“Pam’s Party for Women Who Love Water and the Oregon Food Bank,” a Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District fundraiser, returns to the Beaverton Swim Center, 12850 S.W. Third St., from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.

The free event for women of all ages includes shallow and deep-water aerobics, homemade desserts and women committed to raising money for a good cause.

Women interested in participating may RSVP by calling Pam Gross at 503-644-5997 or the Beaverton Swim Center at 503-629-6312.

Pam’s Party has become a fundraising success story for the park district, said THPRD spokesman Bob Wayt. Attended by about 50 charitable people, last year’s event raised $2,450 in cash donations, considered a remarkable total for an event of its size, as well as plenty of toys and food.

Gross, a deep-water aerobics patron, established the event in 2007 as a way to celebrate her 70th birthday with friends at the pool while “giving back” by collecting food and toy donations.

“I love to have fun,” Gross said. “Having fun with a bunch of wonderful women is more fun than anything I can think of, unless it’s a bunch of wonderful women in a swimming pool.”

The park district donates use of the facility and aerobics instructors, Gross’ friend Marj Wilson brings “Marj’s Most Memorable Cake,” and Beaverton Swim Center Program Coordinator Lori Leach makes punch. The participation of men at this event, Gross noted, is limited to writing checks for Oregon Food Bank.

“Pam’s Party” is a precursor to the holiday giving season that continues with the park district’s food and toy drive from Nov. 23 to Dec. 13 at various THPRD facilities.
