Driver slams Escalade into Chevron gas station

Impact rocks building, injures clerk working behind counter

Beaverton police were called to the business at 14470 S.W. Allen Blvd. at 1:51 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers determined that 73-year-old Gabriel Sugarman of Beaverton crashed into the gas station wall while parking his 2003 Cadillac Escalade.

The Escalade did not enter the building, but the impact did cause the interior wall to collapse, falling against the 39-year-old woman who was working behind the counter at the time, said Detective Sgt. Jim Shumway, Beaverton police spokesman.by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Beaverton police say the driver was attempting to park his 2003 Cadillac Escalade when he stepped on its accelerator rather than the brake.

"Sugarman told officers that he was parking in the space on the west side of the building when he pushed the accelerator rather than the brake, striking the building with the front of his vehicle," Shumway said.

Officers said Sugarman was not intoxicated at the time of the crash. He was cited for careless driving.
