Police seek driver, vehicle involved in fatal hit and run

Crash claims life of 18-year-old Aloha man


Beaverton police are asking for the public's help in identifying the driver and vehicle involved in a fatal hit and run Tuesday night.

Just before 8 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of Southwest Laurelwood Avenue and Homewood Street in Raleigh Hills on a report of a man lying face down on the roadway.

When officers arrived on scene, they discovered 18-year-old Harley D. Rocher of Aloha on the edge of the road.by: SUBMITTED PHOTO: DMV - Harley D. Rocher of Aloha was struck and killed by a motorist Tuesday night in Raleigh Hills. The driver fled the scene without stopping or notifying emergency responders.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We do not have any information on the suspect vehicle at this time, but it should have significant damage," said Officer Mike Rowe, Beaverton police spokesman on Wednesday.

The location of that vehicle damage is also unknown, he added.

"The injuries that Harley  Rocher sustained were major and are consistent with being struck by a vehicle," Rowe said. "We will need the public’s help in locating the suspect vehicle and identifying the suspect who caused the death of Harley Rocher."

Beaverton police officers and members of the Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team are continuing an investigation into this fatal crash.

Beaverton School District officials confirmed that Rocher attended Chehalem Elementary School, Mountain View Middle School, Aloha High School and Community School at Merlo Station before re-entering Aloha High. He earned his General Educational Development diploma on May 31, 2012, through Portland Community College.

His family is well connected with the Latter-day Saints community.

Service information has not yet been released.

School counselors were available to students and staff who knew the young man and needed extra support following his death.
