OCPD: Armed robber caught in the act
Police say that an armed 28-year-old Beaverton man was caught in the act of an attempted robbery of a creative studio in downtown Oregon City on Thursday.
The case began on Jan. 31, at around 8:30 p.m., when an employee of Funnelbox Production Studios, at 712 Main St., Oregon City, saw a stranger in their office building.
The employee was reportedly working late with one other person and knew the stranger was not an employee. Both employees had been working upstairs. The suspect had a bag over his shoulder that the employee knew belonged to the business.
According to police reports, the employee confronted the suspect, who immediately pulled a knife. The employee pulled out his cell phone to call police, and the suspect ordered him not to do it. The suspect started to walk away from the employee, who ran upstairs and called 9-1-1.
Oregon City police responded and performed an area check for the suspect. Eventually, with the help of a police canine, police determined the suspect was in the basement of the establishment hiding.
The suspect, Nigel Charles Allen, was arrested and charged with robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing and felon in possession of a restricted weapon.
Allen's address is 11934 S.W. Windmill Drive, Beaverton.
