Beaverton driver escapes vehicle and faces DUI charge

Mjannies Evette Washington, 28, of Beaverton faces charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and driving while suspended.

At about 2 p.m., officers learned a 2000 Buick LeSabre travelling westbound along Sunset Highway to southbound Highway 217 crashed into the median, left to roadway and went down an embankment.

The vehicle caught fire near a safety fence around the MAX tunnel.

Washington, who was driving the LeSabre, was able to get out of the vehicle. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, said Officer Mike Rowe, Beaverton police spokesman.
