Washington County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Portland man accused of stealing a case of beer on Thursday and assaulting the distributor with the case when he was confronted.by: WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - John Jacboson was arrested Thursday after he allegedly stole a case of beer from the Butner Road Plaid Pantry store and assaulted the distributor with the case.

Deputies responded to a robbery at the Plaid Pantry at 14140 S.W. Butner Road in Cedar Hills, at 5:48 a.m. Upon arrival, they learned a man later identified as John Jacobson, 20, from Portland, took a case of beer that was stacked up outside the store ready to be stocked. The distributor stocking the beer saw Jacobson grab a case of beer and run behind the store. When confronted, Jacobson threw the case of beer, striking the distributor in the face, said Bob Ray, sheriff's office spokesman. There were no injuries from the confrontation.

Jacobson ran south into the Nike campus. Additional deputies, assisted by Beaverton Police K9 "Alex" and his handler, quickly converged to the area. Shortly after the search began, "Alex" located Jacobson hiding in some bushes on the Nike property, Ray said. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Jacobson, who suspected of another beer theft earlier in the day, was charged with third-degree robbery and two counts of third-degree theft. He was lodged in the Washington County Jail, where he is being held pending $20,000 bail.
