Downtown Beaverton gears up for First Friday festivities

The city of Beaverton will host its next First Friday on June 7 in the city’s downtown core area from 5 to 8 p.m. Presented by the Beaverton Downtown Association, the monthly event features live entertainment, refreshments, art demonstrations, dancing and a family-friendly atmosphere.

The Beaverton Masonic Lodge, 4690 S.W. Watson St., kicks off the night with a complimentary barbecue, local artwork and tours of the building from 5 to 7 p.m., while providing information about the evening’s events and participating businesses.

From 6 to 7 p.m., Mandala will present tribal belly dancing across the street at Beaverton Florist. Mandala is a professional, improvisational tribal-style belly dance troupe that performs at street fairs, theater pubs and Portland festivals. They are joined by Marissa Mission, a nonprofit mentorship program that fosters confident, healthy young women through dance, yoga, expressive art, sisterhood and empowering life skills.

“The First Friday events are a fun way to experience what Beaverton’s downtown has to offer,” said Mayor Denny Doyle. “With so many activities and exciting entertainment, there’s truly something for everyone.”

Participating businesses include restaurants, salons, a dance studio, a healing center, coffee shops, a costume store and many specialty shops.

The downtown association and First Friday events are partially sponsored by a grant through the city of Beaverton’s Main Street Program.
