The Beaverton School District on Friday announced several administration changes.

District office

Susan Rodriguez has been selected as the administrator for licensed personnel in human resources, effective July 1. She replaces Mark Moser who has accepted a position as human resources director in the North Clackamas School District.

Rodriguez has been the principal at Barnes Elementary School since returning to the Beaverton School District in 2007. As a former Highland Park Middle School Spanish and French teacher, she has also served as a principal in the Forest Grove and Olympia, Wash., school districts and has taught high school Spanish and English as a second language at Portland Community College. In addition to teaching in California bilingual programs, Rodriguez has taught English to native Spanish speakers in Colombia.

Elementary schools

Veronica Galvan has been selected as principal of Vose Elementary School, effective July 1. Galvan replaces Will Flores who has accepted a principal position in California. Currently, the student supervisor at Aloha-Huber Park Elementary School, Galvan has been a counselor and teacher in the Beaverton School District since 2005. Prior to coming to Beaverton, she taught middle school humanities in Houston, Texas.

Veronica Jones has been selected as principal at Barnes Elementary School, effective July 1. Jones is replacing Rodriguez. Jones has been with the Beaverton School District since 1995, serving as an elementary teacher, literacy coach and teacher on special assignment. In her current Teaching and Learning Department role, she supports Title I and English as a Second Language programs and coordinates the Two-Way Immersion program.

Sean Leverty has been selected as Montclair Elementary School's principal, effective July 1. Leverty is replacing Verna Bailey who is retiring. Currently the student supervisor at Hiteon Elementary School, Leverty has been a district mentor and elementary teacher in the Beaverton School District since 2007. Prior to coming to Beaverton, Leverty was an elementary teacher in Omaha, Neb.

Middle school

Janet Maza has been selected as assistant principal at Stoller Middle School, effective July 1. Stoller Middle School is receiving an additional administrator due to increased student enrollment. Currently the reading intervention specialist at Conestoga Middle School, Maza has been a teacher in the Beaverton School District since 1987. Previously, she was a response to intervention specialist at Scholls Heights and Hiteon elementary schools, a literacy coach at Hiteon and a teacher at Ridgewood and Oak Hills elementary schools.

Option school

Carmen Gelman has been selected as administrator for Deer Park, effective July 1. Gelman has been the principal at Springfield High School in Springfield since 2010, and was the assistant principal since 2004. Gelman has extensive experience collaborating with social service agencies to provide wrap-around services and working with gang-affected youth. She obtained an $870,000 21st Century Grant for after-school programs, resulting in dramatically increased attendance rates and reduction of suspension rates.
