The Bonnie L. Hayes Small Animal Shelter has reduced the cost of adopting kittens and cats to reduce the overflowing population of felines that happens this time every year.

“This is a great time to think of the joys of owning a cat,” says Debbie Wood, manager of Animal Services for Washington County. “We’ve reduced our adoption prices on cats and kittens so we can find new homes for these great pets as quickly as possible.”

Until the population is reduced, the cost of adopting an adult cat over one-year-old is reduced from $50 to $10. The cost of adopting a kitten is reduced from $80 to $40.

The Washington County shelter is located at 1901 S.E. 24th Ave. in Hillsboro. Adoption center hours are 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
