The city of Beaverton is sponsoring the third annual Beaverton Celebration 5K Fun Run and Walk, on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 9 a.m. beginning at Griffith Park and following the Celebration Parade route. Partial proceeds from the run will be provided to the Beaverton Police Activities League.

Prior to the 5K, a Youth Dash run will be held in the Griffith Park 'Bowl,' across from City Hall, 4755 S.W. Griffith Drive, for children 10 and younger.

"This year, we're proud to have a portion of the benefits go toward Beaverton PAL, an important resource for many kids in our community," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "I hope to see families and friends kick off the 56th annual Celebration Parade by running or walking in the 5K."

The Beaverton Celebration Parade began in 1957 and has grown into a citywide tradition. This year's parade is Saturday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m.

The 5K costs $7 per participant or $17, which includes a commemorative shirt for those who register before Aug. 28. Day-of registration is $10 (cash or check only). The Youth Dash is free.
