Agustin Godinez-Lopez confesses role in crime to Beaverton police detective

A third suspect in a violent 2009 home invasion robbery in Beaverton was recently arrested and charged for his confessed role in the incident after living for years as a fugitive in Mexico.

Police in San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico, on Aug. 23, arrested Agustin Godinez-Lopez, 23, on accusations of assaulting his wife.

Godinez-Lopez fled the United States after the Feb. 15, 2009, home invasion incident. During the investigation, the Mexican Police determined Godinez-Lopez had a warrant in the United States based on the 2009 incident. Because Godinez-Lopez is an American citizen, he was immediately deported back to America and turned over to Border Patrol, said Officer Mike Rowe, a Beaverton Police Department spokesman.

The Beaverton Police Department detective working the case flew to Yuma, Ariz., to interview Godinez-Lopez and was reportedly able to get a full confession from the suspect.

On Feb. 15, 2009, at approximately 3:45 a.m., three men wearing masks and wielding firearms forced their way into a townhome in the 6600 block of Southwest 123rd Avenue. The three men terrorized the three victims, demanding to know where drugs and money were located, Rowe said. One of the suspects physically assaulted one of the victims.

The victims had called 911 prior to the suspects making entry into the townhome, and police were on the way. Beaverton police arrived at the townhome, and all three of the suspects fled on foot. Two of the suspects, later identified as Adan Godinez-Lopez, 26, and Christian Romero-Aguilar, 27, were located after a K9 track. The third suspect, later identified as Godines-Lopez, escaped, and an arrest warrant was issued for him.

Romero-Aguilar pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery and second-degree assault and received a sentence of 10 years in prison. Godinez-Lopez went to trial, was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Godinez-Lopez is awaiting transport back to Oregon to be held accountable for the crimes he confessed to, Rowe said.
