The Labor Day holiday placed an unofficial cap on traditional summer fun, but Beaverton will continue to celebrate what makes it a great place to be with its 56th annual Celebration Parade on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.

The parade will begin at the corner of Southwest Wilson Avenue and Allen Boulevard and move onto Southwest Erickson Avenue to Fifth Street, passing by the Beaverton City Library. Filled with floats, music, mascots and family fun, the parade concludes at Griffith Park across from City Hall, 4755 S.W. Griffith Drive.

Beginning in 1957, the Celebration Parade has grown into a community tradition with more than 100 entrants each year, from marching bands and colorful floats to civic and cultural organizations. Winners of this year’s Service to Beaverton Awards, who were announced in July, will be honored as celebrity guests and join local elected officials and Leslie Mundt, this year’s featured grand marshal.

This year’s parade theme, “Community — For One and All,” was created by Angela Brown of the ENCORE Performing Arts Academy. She won this year’s theme contest after considering criteria including what she and her organization represent to the community and what the community means to her.

For the safety of spectators, parade participants, course marshals and Beaverton police officers, the following streets will be closed to through traffic:

  • Allen Boulevard from Murray Boulevard to 130th Avenue, at 8 a.m.

  • Erickson Avenue from Allen Boulevard to Fifth Street, at 8:15 a.m.

  • Fifth Street from Erickson Avenue to Griffith Drive, at 8:15 a.m.

  • Lombard Avenue, Hall Boulevard, Watson and Main avenues will be closed at Fifth Street from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

  • Murray Boulevard, Western Avenue and Highway 217 will be open for northbound and southbound traffic.

  • Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and Canyon Road will be open for eastbound and westbound traffic.
  • All streets will re-open immediately following the parade. Vehicles normally parked on the parade route must be moved before 8 a.m. on Saturday.

The parade centers a weekend of family-friendly activities, including the third annual 5K Fun Run on Saturday morning and Bike Beaverton on Sunday afternoon.
