UPDATE • Police said driver did not see Debra Compton crossing the road
A 51-year-old woman has died after being struck by a pickup Wednesday night as she was crossing Southwest Scholls Ferry Road just east of 125th Avenue in South Beaverton.
Beaverton police said Debra Compton of Beaverton died Thursday afternoon.
According to police, the accident happened at about 8:45 p.m. Officers called to the accident found witnesses and passersby helping a pedestrian who was in the road near the McDonald's restaurant at 12388 S.W. Scholls Ferry Road.
Officers said the woman was walking north across Scholls Ferry Road when she was struck by a pickup traveling west in the left lane.
"The driver of the vehicle stopped and assisted in treating the pedestrian," said Det. Sgt. Jim Shumway, Beaverton police spokesman.
A preliminary investigation showed that the driver was not impaired or speeding. The driver reportedly did not see the pedestrian in the roadway. The nearest crosswalk is about 275 feet west of the accident location, according to police.
Officers closed the westbound lanes of Scholls Ferry Road for several hours Wednesday night.
