No one injured in Sunday morning incident

by: TUALATIN VALLEY FIRE & RESCUE - Lighting struck a tree in Aloha during a Sunday morning thunderstorm, sending parts of the tree into this and a neighboring house on Southwest Hennig Court.A quick-moving thunderstorm sent a bolt of lightning into a large tree that damaged two Aloha homes when parts of the tree fell on them on late Sunday morning.

Residents were home at the time of the incident, but no one was injured. One family will seek temporary housing at a nearby hotel while the other family chose to stay in their home once it was safe to re-enter.

Hillsboro Fire & Rescue and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched at 11:15 a.m. to a call at 18705 S.W. Hennig Court in Aloha. When the first engine from Hillsboro Fire Station 6 arrived, crews found a large, multi-trunked tree fractured with limbs damaging two neighboring houses. From the initial assessment, a tree limb fell onto a central portion of the living space of one house, while another tree limb struck the side of the other home. Crews from Hillsboro Fire Station 6 and Tualatin Valley Fire Station 67 confirmed everyone had evacuated the homes safely and turned off all utilities to both houses as a safety precaution.

The remaining portion of the tree showed significant signs of damage, so residents and crews remained outside the houses. A professional tree service was brought in to assess and mitigate any potential risk the remaining tree limbs presented. No injuries were reported, and the lighting strike didn't produce any fire.

"This is a great example of the excellent working relationship we have with Hillsboro Fire & Rescue to support each other through mutual aid and provide all of our citizens with the reliable and professional response they expect," said Piseth Pich, TVF&R public information officer.

TVF&R officials encourage residents to check and maintain home emergency kits in case of weather-related emergencies.
