Man arrested after alleged assault with a Samurai sword near Grants Pass

Beaverton police on Thursday arrested a suspect sought in connection with a Nov. 15 assault involving a Samurai sword at a Grants Pass-area residence.by: WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - Beaverton police arrested Preston James Sweany, 23, on suspicion of assault using a Samurai sword and other outstanding warrants.

Preston James Sweany, 23, was arrested on Thursday, Dec. 19, around 2:15 p.m. in the 14000 block of Southwest Sixth Street in Beaverton. Wanted on two outstanding warrants, Sweany is a suspect in an assault in which he allegedly used a Samurai sword during an argument causing laceration wounds to his 23-year old brother. Following the alleged assault, Sweany fled on foot and Oregon State Police issued a news release requesting the public's help to find him, said Oregon State Police Sgt. Jeff Fitzgerald, spokesman for OSP.

Sweany was lodged in Washington County Jail as a fugitive from justice based on a felony drug-related warrant out of California as well as a misdemeanor warrant out of Curry County for failure to appear on an original charge of intimidation. Charges are also pending in Josephine County for accusation of second-degree assault unlawful use of a weapon.
