County conducts survey to consider future projects

Washington County officials are seeking public comment about transportation needs in the next few decades.

The online survey is being conducted as part of the Washington County Transportation Study that was funded by the 2013 Oregon Legislature. The $1.5 million study is intended to help determine how well the existing transportation system is meeting future needs and what projects, if any, are considered necessary for accommodating future demands.

Public comments are being accepted through Jan. 28 on the county’s website at Comments can also be made by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. First Ave., Hillsboro 97214.

The regional economic development community recently weighed in with a study that found increasing congestion on the freeway route from Hillsboro to the Portland International Airport is causing shipping problems for Washington County high-tech manufacturers. The “Portland region westside freight access and logistics analysis” recommended investments to increase the efficiency and reliability of freight shipments, especially in the afternoon.

Additional public comment will be sought through a variety of forums in the next two years. The study is scheduled to be completed in Fall 2015. The final report will document assumptions and a conclusion, and frame choices for future consideration.
