Two people escaped serious injury Thursday afternoon when high winds brought down a tree onto power lines and their sport utility vehicle on Southwest Patton Road near Scholls Ferry Road.
Portland Fire and Rescue crews freed the man and woman from the SUV after determining that the power lines posed no danger to the vehicle. Names of the two people were not released.
Fire crews were called at about 2:30 p.m. Jan. 23, to Patton Road where the tree had toppled onto the SUV and the power lines. High winds blasted through the Portland area Thursday, bringing down trees and forcing a truck hauling a mobile home into the median guard rail of Interstate 205.
The accident closed Patton Road between Scholls Ferry and Shattuck roads for several hours as a Portland General Electric crew repaired the power lines.
