Oregon Gymnastics Academy boys bring home medals

Level 7 Team takes state title


by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Oregon Gymnastics Academy's Level 7 Team earned first place in the Men's State Gymnastics Championships held in Eugene.Brad Bridgewater has been working with gymnasts at the Oregon Gymnastics Academy in Beaverton for two years as the boys’ team program manager and coach.

On March 15, the boys’ Level 7 Team won the state championship title in the Men’s State Gymnastics Championships held in Eugene.

“The boys worked extremely hard to achieve this goal and remained focused on what they were doing,” says Bridgewater. He has trained this group as a team, and together they earned an overall score of 192.6 points.

Christopher Lambert, 12, and Anthony Xanthos, 13, both won All-Around State Champion in their age divisions for the Level 7 Team. Xanthos, a Beaverton School District student, also earned first as Floor State Champion, Vault State Champion and Parallel Bar State Champion. Lambert, a student in the Portland Public Schools, earned Pommel Horse State Champion, Ring State Champion, Vault State Champion and Parallel Bar State Champion.

The Level 6 and Level 5 teams placed second in their categories, earning scores of 178.8 and 189.2 points respectively. Two members of the Level 5 Team hold two state titles each, and one more title was clinched by a Level 6 athlete.

Christopher Xanthos was named the Pommel Horse State Champion and Ring State Champion and Jadon Giuliano was named Floor State Champion and Parallel Bars State Champion. Tyler Anderson won the Floor State Champion medal for the Level 6 Team.

All three teams will advance to the Region 2 Championships, which will be held April 11 to 13 at Lewis & Clark College.

Individual achievements

Level 7 Team: overall score 192.6, State Champions

(ages 11-12)

Christopher Lambert: Pommel Horse State Champion, Ring State Champion, Vault State Champion, Parallel Bar State Champion and All-Around State Champion.

Juanito Kresl: Floor State Champion, High Bar State Champion, and second All-Around.

Aaron Xanthos: second on pommel horse, third on rings and parallel bars, and third All-Around.

Sheldon Vacek: second on floor, rings and high bar, and fourth All-Around.

(ages 13 and older)

Anthony Xanthos: Floor State Champion, Vault State Champion, Parallel Bar State Champion and All-Around State Champion.

Jacob Small: second on floor and sixth All-Around.

Level 6 Team: overall score 178.8, second place

(ages 9-10)

Jacoby Thompson: third on rings and fourth All-Around.

Andrew Shusterman: third on floor.

(ages 11 and older)

Tyler Anderson: Floor State Champion and second place All-Around.

Hunter Clasey: second on ring and third on pommel horse.

Dylan Havelind: fourth on rings and high bar.

Patrick Bride: third on rings.

Level 5 Team: overall score 189.2, second place

(ages 7-8)

Christopher Xanthos: Pommel Horse State Champion, Ring State Champion and third All-Around.

Alexander Vogs: second on floor and All-Around.

Declan Abers: third on floor, pommel horse and vault, and sixth All-Around.

(ages 9-10)

Jadon Giuliano: Floor State Champion, Parallel Bars State Champion and second All-Around.
