Update: Beaverton teen found in Pittsburgh

ZellmerWashington County sheriff's detectives received information that Steven Zellmer was in Pittsburgh headed to a bus terminal.

Detectives had been trying to locate the 16-year-old Beaverton boy whose family reported him missing since April 5.

Detectives shared the information with the local police department in Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh police were able to promptly take Zellmer into protective custody. He was reportedly in good health and will be returned to his parents.

Washington County sheriff's detectives last week asked for the public's help in locating Zellmer, who officials believe had repeatedly engaged in dangerous self-destructive behavior when he previously ran away from home.

His family issued a statement on Friday morning.

"Please help us," the Zellmer family said. "We are frantically worried about our son."

Editor's note: We have updated this story to inform the public that Steven Zellmer has been safely located.
