First Friday festivities return with outdoor flare to downtown Beaverton

The community is invited to celebrate summer and the outdoors during this week’s First Friday event from 5 to 8 p.m. in downtown Beaverton.

Friday night’s festivities will feature vendors specializing in garden art, landscaping, plants and advice on how to make the most of your yard.

Beaverton Florists, 4705 S.W. Watson St., will host June’s event. In addition to special promotions on flowers and gifts, Keith Hill and his team will also sponsor a beer tasting by Golden Valley Brewery. The local brewery will provide samples of its crafted brews.

Musical entertainment for the evening includes Rich Layton and the Troublemakers, Dan Crothers Trio, Doug Fulton and the Chorus of the Goddess Flora, a group of women specializing in singing while they garden.

The Art On Broadway Gallery will hold the second of its popular First Friday auctions from 5 to 9 p.m. Artwork up for bid follows a “Gardens Galore” theme.

Participating businesses around Southwest Broadway and Fourth Street between Main Street and Lombard Avenue include art galleries, specialty shops, restaurants, coffee shops, a costume shop, dance studio, healing center and Beaverton Farmers Market vendors.

New to this year’s First Friday series is a complimentary hop-in, hop-out limo service provided by Best Rate Limo, which runs continuously from 5 to 7:45 p.m. All limo stops are marked with a First Friday sign and red star balloon.

“We’re off to another good start thanks to the Beaverton Downtown Association,” said Mayor Denny Doyle. “The First Friday events are well-attended, and those who stop by are treated to dancing, music, art and food — all celebrating the vibrancy of our community.”
