On Tuesday, Aug. 26, members of the public may comment on the recently announced proposal to give Intel Corp. tax breaks in exchange for keeping its 17,500 jobs in Washington County and investing $100 billion here during the next 30 years.

The Washington County Board of Commissioners and the Hillsboro City Council will take public testimony at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Cameron Public Services Building, 155 N. First Ave., Hillsboro.

If it moves forward, the proposed agreement would be Intel’s fifth Strategic Investment Program deal since 1994. The Oregon Legislature passed a bill in 1993, allowing the public-private partnerships.

The proposal would follow a precedent established with other Washington County SIP agreements that require fees equal to full property taxes on all land and buildings. New equipment and technology would receive a tax abatement.
