Landslides bury car, close roads through West Hills
A large landslide was reported on West Burnside Street at Skyline Boulevard Wednesday morning.
One car with three passengers is confirmed to have been caught up in the slide. Passengers in the car told KOIN 6 News their car was buried up to its door handles but they managed to escape unharmed.
Initial reports say the slide is 15 feet deep.
Crews are on scene surveying the damage and conducting an investigation. They say it is possible other cars were buried but at this point are confident it was only one.
John Brady from the Portland Bureau of Transportation said crews are on scene assessing as well.
Portland Fire & Rescue said graves at a nearby cemetery were not compromised. Burnside Street is closed between Skyline Boulevard and Barnes Road.
Two other landslides were reported Wednesday morning, according to the Portland Bureau of Transportation: Northwest Cornell Road is closed between the first tunnel and Skyline Boulevard due to three areas with debris in the road, while Northwest Thompson Road is closed at Pinnacle Drive due to debris in the road.
