Unemployment rates plummet
Washington County's unemployment rate hit 3.6 percent in January 2017 — the lowest unemployment rate since the 1990s.
Revised unemployment rate data has just been released for the state of Oregon, smoothing out this summer's uptick in unemployment. Total employment grew by 1.9 percent between January 2016 and January 2017.
Transportation and warehousing took off with more than 17 percent growth, adding more jobs than usual for the holiday season. Manufacturing continued its decline with 800 jobs lost year in the course of a year.
