Wheels will be turning at annual event
Get rolling in Beaverton at the annual bicycle safety event.
Bike Beaverton returns from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, with an educational bike safety rodeo with the Beaverton Police Department and a community ride sponsored by the city's Bicycle Advisory Committee.
Bike Beaverton is an event that teaches community members about bicycle safety for both bicyclists and motorists. Local businesses Bethany Bike Repair, Bike Gallery, Nike and Veloce Bicycles, as well as the NW Bicycle Safety Council, will be on-hand providing safety checks, helmet fittings and free giveaways.
"We want people to get outside and enjoy riding in the safest way possible," Bicycle Advisory Committee Chair Adrian Freund said. "This event is about teaching community members the importance of bike safety and having some fun while we're at it. Help us make Beaverton an even more bike-friendly community."
The event will be held at City Park, Southwest Fifth Street and Hall Boulevard. The bike safety rodeo obstacle course for children begins at 1 p.m. The community bike ride will begin at 2 p.m. followed by frozen treats for participants. Helmets are required for all riders. For those without a helmet, The NW Bicycle Safety Council will provide free helmets.
Registration for Bike Beaverton is open online until Wednesday, Sept. 6. Registration also will be available on site. For event details, visit BeavertonOregon.gov/BikeBeaverton.
