Washington County promotes housing official
Assistant Director Komi Kalevor has taken over as director of the Washington County Department of Housing Services.
County Administrator Bob Davis made the appointment — and Kalevor was introduced at a Feb. 27 work session of the county commissioners — after newly named Jill Smith decided as a personal choice to return to her former position as deputy director of the Clackamas County Health, Housing and Human Services Department.
Kalevor was accompanied by Adolph "Val" Valfre, who retired from the Washington County agency on Nov. 30. Valfre, who was its director for more than nine years, is now on the Forest Grove City Council.
Kalevor has been assistant director since 2014. He has had responsibility for development and low-rent public housing and the federal voucher program known as Section 8, which offers aid to renters.
Previously he was with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle, Portland Housing Bureau, and Portland Development Commission, the latter now known as Prosper Portland. He also has worked for the Oregon Housing and Community Services Department.
"His depth of experience, familiarity with our initiatives and his support and commitment to our employees will contribute to his success in this new role," Davis said in his announcement.
The county agency combines traditional housing programs with economic opportunity intended to move families toward enhancement of skills and self-sufficiency.
Kalevor earned a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1988 from Portland State University and a master's degree in business administration in 1991 from the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University.
