I have the experience and passion to serve

Hello neighbors, my name is Jerry Jones, and I am running for the Board of Directors for Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District. My drive to run comes from my vast experience in community engagement, my strong commitment to livability, my professional experience, and the fact that my core personal values directly line up with the mission of THPRD.

I have lived in Washington County for 30 years and have grown up enjoying THPRD. After graduating from Aloha High School, I went on to Montana State University where I studied construction management. I currently am the general manager of Lanphere Construction and Development in Beaverton, and I live in Aloha with my wife Mary and my two young children who are frequent users of the park district.

My goal for THPRD is to bring responsible fiscal oversight to our board. Today, the district is reinvesting in its parks, natural areas and facilities. These improvements were made possible by your support of the $100 million bond measure passed in 2008.

As a professional in the construction industry, I will bring a critical eye to capital improvement projects and facility maintenance. More importantly, I will ensure sound fiscal oversight. I think my professional background sets me apart in this area. Part of what motivates me to want to serve on the THPRD Board is that I believe we need this skill-set among our board members. I also believe, THPRD must serve all users. I especially want the district to embrace our diverse residents as well as those with special needs. Our park district has the unique responsibility of providing services all the way from new babies to senior citizens, and everyone in between. I want to see the district continue and expand its efforts to reach out to the community and ensure we are meeting the expectations of all of us who use and cherish these services.

My commitment to volunteerism started when I was young. My mom taught me the importance of serving my community. She led by example and was involved in everything from team mom to Cub Pack leader. Long after my days of service as an Eagle Scout, I followed her lead and have worked hard to give back to my community. Over the past 10 years, I have seen firsthand how much we can achieve by working together.

I have supported many causes over the years from HomePlate (dedicated to serving homeless youth) to THPRD’s Sports Advisory Committee. Because of these efforts and many others, I have been endorsed by state Reps. Jeff Barker and Tobias Read; Metro Council President Tom Hughes and Councilor Kathryn Harrington; Washington County Chairman Andy Duyck and Commissioner Greg Malinowski as well as the mayors of Tigard, Beaverton and Hillsboro.

As an active community volunteer, I have the opportunity to talk to many people about why they choose to live here and what they value about our community. Without fail, people talk about our great parks and sense of community. I see our park district as being responsible to protect and cherish these treasured community assets. And, that is why I am asking for your vote. I know I have the experience, the passion and the ability to serve.
