Silent auction and dinner set for Sunday in Tualatin

The Washington County Democratic Party will hold its first fundraiser of the year, SpringFest 2013, on Sunday at the Local 290 Plumbers & Steamfitters Hall, beginning with a reception and silent auction at 2 p.m., and a Mexican buffet dinner from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

The hall is located at 20210 S.W. Teton Ave. in Tualatin. The public is invited and attendees will be able to meet a number of candidates and elected officials.

The theme of this year’s event is: “Cinco de Mayo, El Festival de la Primavera.”

Keynote speaker will be Brad Avakian, labor commissioner for the state of Oregon. Avakian has longstanding roots in Washington County, having graduated from Beaverton High School. He served his constituents as state representative for House District 34 and as state senator in District 17 before being appointed labor commissioner by then-Gov. Ted Kulongoski in 2008. Avakian was re-elected to another term in 2012.

Onda Norte will be the musical guest for the evening.

This year, SpringFest will feature an auction, wall of wine and raffle. Beer on tap and wine will be available for a separate charge.

Guests will have a chance to bid on an array of gifts and services, wine and political memorabilia. Democratic Party T-shirts, bumper stickers and other items will be available for purchase.

Ticket cost is $30 per person; $25 for seniors, veterans and precinct committee persons; and $15 for children. Patron tables are available for $250.
