Northwest Willamette Valley Habitat for Humanity has a new solution for residents in its service area, including Canby, who already own a home, but need help with making critical repairs to their home.

The ReHabitat Home Livability Program offers low-income families an affordable loan repayment option so that they may make repairs to their homes and are not displaced.

“Habitat doesn’t just build new homes for families,” said Volunteer Coordinator and Family Specialist LouJean Fobert, “we recognized the need to preserve existing housing stock and the best way for us to do that was through an affordable loan repairs program.”

Costs for the loan repairs program are kept low by using donated supplies and volunteer labor (when applicable). Depending on a family’s income, repayment of the repair loan can be as low as 20 percent of the cost of the project at zero percent interest. To qualify for the ReHabitat Home Livability Program, families must fall under 60 percent of the area median income for their county. For those who fall below 30 percent of area median income, the repair project and family circumstance will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. In addition, for families to qualify for the loan repairs program they must own their home, be current on their property taxes and homeowners insurance, and live within the service area of north Marion and south Clackamas counties.

ReHabitat projects can include repairs to roofs, siding, and exterior stairs; replacement of windows, furnaces, water heaters, adding insulation to a home and more.

“Our goal is to help families maintain their existing home so that we are fulfilling our vision of everyone having a decent place to live,” said Fobert.
