Canby School Board to discuss potential superintendent opening
With Superintendent John Steach in the running for another position, the Canby School District board of directors will discuss the potential of finding a potential successor in a special meeting Thursday.
The board will meet at 6 p.m. in the Meridian Room at the district office at 1130 S. Ivy St. The search for a director of student achievement also is on the agenda.
Following the meeting, the board will meet in executive session to discuss labor negotiations.
In an email to the district staff Tuesday, Steach said he was under consideration for another position.
The original timeline for that position was well before spring break but was strung out by delays, he said. He still was under consideration but would not know anything until next week at the earliest.
The board was aware of the process and had set an early April deadline to start public discussing options and preparing for a possible search, Steach said.
And based on the remaining possibility, the board will meet with a search consultant this week to discuss options, process and timelines.
Steach has served as the Canby superintendent since July 1, 2011. Before that, he was deputy superintendent in the Richland (Wash.) School District.
Steach was twice considered for superintendent jobs in Washington state last year. He was a finalist for the job in the South Kitsap School District in February and the Richland School District in April.
