Melissa Kelly was serving as interim library manager before being promoted
A newly defined and classified library director position is no longer vacant.
Melissa Kelly, who has been serving as the interim library manager, was promoted to fill the new library director position July 6.
Melissa has been and will continue to perform the day-to-day management and long-term planning for the library with assistance from supervising librarian Elizabeth Figueroa, said interim City Administrator Amanda Zeiber. Both Melissa and Elizabeth have their MLS and extensive library experience.
Zeiber said that Kelly was instrumental in partnering with the school district for the Summer Lunch Program. The program provides free lunches during the summer, when the school lunch program is not available.
The position and its duties were modified during the recent budget cycle. As it is currently structured, the library director will focus more on the day-to-day operations of the library, employee supervision, long range planning, policy development, partnerships with other organizations and public outreach.
In its earlier incarnation, the library director position focused more on project management, marketing and donation fund raising.
As it (library director) to the new library-civic building, we will be utilizing the expertise of the library consultants brought on by the architects and general contractors, in addition to selecting firms with experience designing and construction of libraries and civic buildings.
