School supply drives

The Canby Center’s school supply drive is struggling

A year ago, the drive not only brought in school supplies, but raised more than $900 to help fill out school backpacks with the supplies children needed. Currently, the drive is behind on items and has raised only $19.

Kendra Mikulec, customer services manager at Cutsforth’s Thriftay, said that Cutsforth’s and local churches are all working to make sure supplies and backpacks are ready for children who need them.

Basic school items needed are crayons, colored pencils, glue sticks, pencils, notebook paper, markers, facial tissues, and one-inch three ring binders. Backpacks are being collected as well.

Cash donations are being taken at every check stand at Cutsforth’s Thriftway, with an option of a $15 donation that would supply one child with a backpack and supplies. Reward Card balances can be used.

There are barrels for donations of supplies at each entrance to the store.

Highest priority items are: Backpacks, pencils, pens, one-inch 3-ring binders, markers and colored pencils. Deadline is Aug. 26.
