Thanks offered for help filling local food bank

To the editor:

On behalf of the Canby St. Vincent de Paul food bank, I’d like thank the Cutsforth Thirftway customers who donate their “Rewards” dollars to us.

When we received a statement from Thriftway indicating the food bank had a $2,200 credit, I immediately went to Frank Cutsforth to say there had been some mistake.

Frank explained, “No mistake, we just have very generous customers who allocate their rewards refund to the food bank.” Right then, I had the Thriftway cashier change my allocation, so I could join the hundreds of customers giving back. This is just another example of the generous nature of our community.

In 2013, the Canby St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank provided 11,846 food boxes to our neighbors in need at a cost of over $47,000. Our St. Vincent de Paul motto is, “Help us, help others”. The Custforth Thriftway customers are charity in action.

Thank you.

Cancer patient’s family offers thanks for help

To the editor:

It has been my privilege to spend the past 27 years married to the most wonderful man in the world. Kind, gentle and compassionate are words that fit him well.

For the past nine years, Fred Beck has worked in circulation for the Canby Herald, Molalla Pioneer, Wilsonville Spokesman, Newberg Graphic and Woodburn Independent. Part of his job requires finding resolution to customer complaints, something he has tried to be understanding about.

Ten days ago he was diagnosed with cancer. He has resolved to get through it with little complaining. The outpouring of love from the staff and the kindness from the carriers has been a comfort.

Our thanks to each of you for your love and prayers. You’ve blessed our lives.

Story on ‘Indie’ music program was a good one

To the editor:

Thanks to John Baker for his story on the Indie Backroads program that was filmed here in town at The Place to Be Café. What an interesting concept and one that will highlight music in the region.

I hope that the program creator will be able to find financial backers to help him complete his goal of getting a whole season in the can before taking it to a network. After reading the story, I went to the website and watched the initial episode. What a wonderful atmosphere seemed to be created at the café and the music was really interesting to listen to.

I enjoyed it very much, as well as some of the back story about the three artists highlighted.

Again, a fun and interesting story about something unique happening in Canby. Good job, Mr. Baker.
