Letters to the Editor

Thanks offered for all who aided food drive

To the editor:

The final count for the 2014 Letter Carrier Food Drive was 8,377 pounds of food collected in Canby.

We could not have had better weather, better volunteers or better coordination than what we had on Saturday, May 10. A huge thank you to Canby Post Office supervisor Mary Vanderzanden, clerks, city and rural carriers and their families who volunteered to help collect food on the routes.

Postal family members help every year to support the carriers on this extra heavy day of food-mail pickups.

More thanks to Bill, Mike, Gretchen and the rest of the St. Patrick’s food bank coordinators who have volunteers helping unloading the mail vehicles, then weighing and sorting the thousands of pounds of food for the food bank.

This is the second year that Canby Rotary came with many volunteers to help alongside the St. Patrick volunteers.

But none of this would have happened without the help of the community and businesses who helped advertise the food drive. Thank you, Canby Herald, Canby Chamber, Cutsforth’s Thriftway. Canby Ford, HiWay Market Place and Canby Inn for the readerboards.

Once again, many thanks to the generous hearts of Canby citizens

who gave food donations to their fellow Canby neighbors in need on May 10.
