Calling a 'tax' a 'fee' will cost candidates support when next they are up for re-election

To the editor:

I have been a resident of Canby for the past nine years. As I have watched the City of Canby government grow I have appreciated the efforts put forward to improve our city.

I am a firm believer in progressive leadership, however, when the city uses the "fee" exception to force City residences to submit to another "tax" without a vote of the people, I do draw the line.

I see your term of service expires at the end of 2018. I will remember your "yes" vote on this issue and donate my money and time to any opposition that runs against you. We who reside in Canby cannot afford to be consistently subjected to city "fees" as you and your fellow councilors Parker, Heidt, and Spoon feel are justified.

The Canby Herald.

Why are you so opposed to the vote of the people? This "fee" is not optional and is a "tax."

I, along with my fellow neighbors, have already gathered and agreed to support anyone who runs against you for this office in 2019 as we cannot afford a city mayor or councilors who believe they have the right to "fee" us into financial hardships.
