Location scouts found a wealth of locations in Canby's own Eco Park, which served as a European forest for the NBC television series "Grimm" recently.

The popular dark drama series inspired by classic Grimm Brothers fairy tales has been filming in and around the Portland area since its premier. Scenes were shot in Canby for Episode 17 of the show's third season.

The episode, “Synchronicity,” will air Friday, April 4, at 9 p.m. on NBC.

Crews began setting up for shooting in Canby Friday, Jan. 31. Early the following Monday morning, a film crew of 80 and eight actors began work on several scenes in Eco Park's disc golf course and field near the Logging Road Trail. The crew spent a 13-hour day filming a segment that will be edited down to about five minutes of show time.

"I'm not giving away any secrets when I tell you the scenes involve a car chase, a violent encounter and the untimely demise of several villains," said Renate Mengelberg, Canby's economic development director. "The heroes survive and go on to other adventures filmed near Aurora Airport and near Molalla.

“Having the folks at ‘Grimm’ use Canby for their show would not happen without a great deal of help from my colleagues at the Canby Public Works Department, Dave Conner and Jeff Snyder, and Laurie Bothwell, director of the Clackamas County Event Center,” added Mengelberg. “I really appreciate their help."

The "Grimm" team worked closely with the city of Canby and the Canby Event Center on the logistics involved in this production shoot.

The city helped the production crew with access to the area and finding parking for a fleet of trailers, equipment and crew facilities.

According to Mengelberg, the show's producers said they liked the Canby site because it had the look of pristine wilderness but was easy to access, accommodating the wide variety of equipment needed for a professional television production.

This is the second production to film in Canby in the past six months — the first was a commercial for an international sporting goods and apparel company.
