Five Baker Prairie Middle School students competed in this year’s Intel Northwest Science Expo, a science inquiry competition held at Portland State University.

Students Kate Bernklau Halvor, Makena Phillips, Olivia Corcoran, Logan Lachnite, Olivia Hathaway and Megan Jones were among 580 contestants at this year’s competition.

The five spent many hours outside of class time to create individual projects that followed all the steps of the scientific method.

Corcoran took third place in the mechanical physics competition for her project on the effects of frequency on nonNewtonian fluids. Halvor received honorable mention in the category of mathematics and computer science for her project “Saving Fish With a Game.”
