Former NBA player will speak at Molalla Nazarene church

A.C. GreenThe Molalla Church of the Nazarene will host retired NBA basketball player A. C. Green as the keynote speaker for the “Turning Up the Heat” youth outreach event on May 3 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Registration is required. Attendees need to call 971-570-7904 or pick up a registration form in the Nazarene church office at 920 S. Shirley St.

The cost is $15 per person. Lunch and a snack will be provided.

In addition, there will be a number of concession stands.

Canby United Methodist set for garden signups in April

The Canby United Methodist Church’s community garden is taking signups. Interested gardeners can call the church office at 503-263-6419 for garden plot sizes, prices and to get a garden packet.

The community garden is at 1520 N. Holly St.

Canby Police need residents to claim lost, stolen property

The Canby Police Department reminds residents they must file a claim for any unclaimed property within 30 days of its posting on the department website or lose their interest in that property.

Unclaimed property in police possession is listed on the department website on the found/unclaimed property links under News & Announcements.

Those believing some of the property is theirs should call the police property room at 503-266-0761 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

They should be prepared to provide a detailed description of the property, circumstances of its loss and proof of ownership as necessary. Positive identification is required before property will be released.

Legion offering breakfast for poppy programs

The Canby American Legion will hold a breakfast Sunday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Legion hall, 424 NW First Ave. to benefit its veterans poppy project.

Menu consists of choice of bacon, chicken-fried steak, sausage or ham, hot cakes, hash browns, eggs to order and English muffin. Beverages are included.

Cost is $6 for adults with children ages 10 and under $3. Proceeds to benefit the Clackamas County foster care program.

Use the Fir Street entrance.

Garden plots available at Baker Prairie garden

Garden plots are available at the Baker Prairie Community Garden at Baker Prairie Middle School.

There is a $20 refundable deposit and a $20 yearly fee.

Thelma’s Place offering hanging plant baskets

Thelma’s Place is one again selling hanging baskets as a fundraiser. A 12-inch mixed basket is $23, while a 14-inch basket is $31. Pre-orders are being taken or baskets can be picked up at Country Side Living courtyard at the end of April.

Youth running club has resumed workouts twice a week

The Youth Running Club has resumed meeting this spring for kids ages 8-14. It is a free, community-based, recreational running club that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-4:45 p.m. at the Ackerman track.

Gretchen Keyser is the Tuesday coach and April Lesher is the Thursday coach. Children are welcome to drop in whenever they can, and parents are welcome to run too.

Parents should fill out a permission form in advance (the schools will have them in the main office) or come fill it out on the child's first practice. The season will run through May 22.

The St. Vincent De Paul lunch bus is back in Canby after a six month break, stopping at The Canby Center every Thursday at noon. The meals are free and open to anyone.

The Canby volunteer firefighters will hold a Mother’s Day breakfast Sunday from 8:30-11 a.m. at the main station, 221 S. Pine St.

‘Women at the Well’ performance will be Sunday

The “Women at the Well” performance will Sunday at 6 p.m. in the chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1285 S. Elm St. in Canby.

Hubbard cemetery meeting will be held May 13

The annual membership meeting of the Hubbard Cemetery Association will be held on Tuesday, May 13, at 7 p.m. at the Hubbard Fire Station, 3161 Second St. in Hubbard. The agenda will include election of trustees and officers.

The Canby Adult Center is looking for volunteers for several hours to assist with food preparation and serving. Volunteers will need to be able to work on their feet for several hours. The Adult Center serves meals Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from about 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The St. Patrick Community Garden project will hold bingo every Friday throughout March at the St. Patrick Parish Center at 422 NW Ninth Ave. in Canby. There will be only one session in the afternoon from 1-4 p.m. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Regular games and specials are played; cash prizes awarded, including $200 progressive pot. Bingo continues at Canby Adult Center

The Canby Adult Center’s bingo game runs from 1-4 p.m. Tuesdays. Doors open at noon.

Aurora Unit 110 offers monthly flea market

The Aurora Unit 110, American Legion Auxiliary holds its First Saturday of the Month flea market Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lions Club sets annual plant sale for May

The Canby Lions Club will hold its annual plant sale Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Canby Cinema 8 parking lot along with the Canby Farmers Market.

The sale will offer many kinds of plant materials. Proceeds go to the Canby Lions Club program such as eyeglasses, hearing aids, scholarships and other local projects.
