Free Heart screenings available

Providence Medical Group in Canby will offer free health screenings for children ages 12-18 by appointment from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the clinic at 200 S. Hazel Dell Way.

A small percentage of young people have hidden heart defects that put their lives at risk, especially during physical exertion. Play Smart offers a painless, noninvasive screening to check the heart health of young people 12 to 18.

The Play Smart screenings through Providence Heart and Vascular Institute will include a health questionnaire, electrocardiogram (EKG), blood pressure reading, and echocardiogram, if needed.

Movie night will be Aug. 1 at Wait park

CTV Channel 5 will hold a ‘movie in the park’ event Friday, Aug. 1, at Wait Park. The movie will be “The Princess Bride” and begins at dusk.

Free music slated for Aurora benefit

New Creation Church in Canby will hold a free coffee house concert Friday, Aug. 1, at the Aurora Auction Barn from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Dinner will be available for a $5 donation with proceeds going to the Canby Pregnancy Center. There will be about seven singer-songwriters performing at 21507 Pacific Highway in Aurora.

Thelma’s, Canby Art Association ‘Get Corked’

The Canby Arts Association and Thelma’s Place will host the Get Corked fundraiser from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Thelma’s Place.

Proceeds benefit Thelma’s Place’s day respite program and features local art, appetizers, wine, raffles and music from acoustic guitarist Curtis Rice.

A $5 donation will be accepted at the Second Street double gate entrance.

Legion Pancake breakfast set for Aurora Colony Days

The Aurora American Legion will hold its annual all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Saturday, Aug. 9, from 7-11 a.m. at the Legion hall at 21510 Main St.

Members of Post 110 and Sons of the American Legion (Squadron 110) will serve breakfast to the local street vendors who set up their booths for the Aurora Colony Days faire.

In addition to pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, orange juice, and coffee can be purchased for $7 a plate, $4 for children ages 11 and under. The American Legion hall will hold its rummage sale upstairs on the main floor after opening Friday.

Proceeds from the Legion Family events enable all three organizations to benefit veterans, especially those confined to the Portland VAMC.

Annual Party at the Farm slated for Aug. 23

The annual Party at the Farm will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, at the historic Stauffer-Will Farm.

The evening will include appetizers, grilled salmon and tri-tip buffet, dessert, a wall of wine, beer tasting, and silent and oral auctions. Proceeds to benefit the Old Aurora Colony Museum.

Free lunch program continues into August

The Canby School District’s Summer Lunch Program continues through August for all children ages 1 to 18.

The free meals will be offered at Wait Park and Bethany Church, Monday through Friday, from noon to 12:30 p.m. through Aug. 29.

No registration required.

CHS class of 2004 plans 10th reunion

The Canby High School class of 2004 is planning its 10-year reunion for Saturday, Sept. 6, from 6 to 10 p.m. at McMenamins Old Church and Pub in Wilsonville. Reunion Tickets now on sale at Price will be $35 for an individual or $60 per couple, which includes one drink ticket per person (beer, wine or soda) and buffet dinner. Small farm issues covered at September class

The OSU Extension Service, Clackamas County SWCD, and Clackamas Community College are partnering for the second annual Small Farm School on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the college.

This all-day event is for beginning farmers and small acreage landowners in the north Willamette Valley. Registration is open through Aug. 27 or until full. The cost is $65 for adults and $40 for youth, ages 13 to 18, with an adult. Workshop topics include poultry, pigs, fruit trees, vegetable production, tractor safety and operation, marketing, on farm veterinary care and soil conservation.

CHS class of ’74 sets class reunion

The Canby High School class of 1974 will hold a 40-year reunion on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Wild Hare Saloon beginning at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $15 per person and appetizers will be served.
