Preps roundup: Canby boys snag perfect score at Kah-Nee-Ta Resort
The Canby boys cross-country team earned a perfect score to win the Madras Invite title, sweeping the top five places Sept. 28 at Kah-Nee-Ta Resort.
The Cougars tallied a best-possible 15 points for a victory in a six-team meet that also featured Summit (61), Chemawa (77), Redmond (95), Molalla (133) and Madras (162).
Canby senior Morgan Webber completed the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes 28 seconds to win the individual championship, logging his third top-six finish of the season.
Sophomore teammates Steven Cranston (17:38) and Quinton Wiltshire (17:45) placed second and third, respectively. Cougars junior Ethan Patterson (17:54) and senior Brendan Seehaver (17:59) sealed the perfect score by crossing the finish line before sixth-place Summit junior Ethan Axten (18:02).
On the girls side, Canby logged 87 points to place third behind Molalla (30) and Summit (39). Cougars junior Hannah Stobie had the teams best time with a 22:42 to place 16th, while senior Sarah Dietrich (22:50) and sophomore Ginny Link (22:53) also posted top-20 finishes. Freshman Shailynn Hestand (23:48) and sophomore Jasmine Ekenbarger (24:03) rounded out the squads top five.
Canbys season continues Oct. 2 when it hosts Three Rivers League and Mt. Hood Conference teams at Molalla River State Park. Varsity racing will start at 5:30 p.m.
The North Marion football team scored the first 20 points of the game en route to a 34-12 victory over Madras on Sept. 27 at Culver High School.
The Huskies (3-2, 1-0 in the Tri-Valley Conference) won a league opener for the first time since 2009, when they earned a 35-21 triumph against Molalla, and handed Madras (2-3, 0-1) its second-straight setback.
With its 22-point edge, North Marion also logged its largest win margin in a conference game since defeating Stayton 38-7 on Oct. 31, 2008.
The Huskies, who were winless in league play the last two seasons, managed their first conference victory since they posted a 12-0 shutout of Madras at home Oct. 29, 2010.
North Marion continues league play at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 with a home game against La Salle Prep (1-4, 0-1).
The Canby girls soccer team snatched its first league win of the season with a 1-0 decision over Lake Oswego at home Sept. 26.
It was the first victory in two weeks for the Cougars (3-4-1, 1-2-1 in the Three Rivers League), whose three-game winless streak included a 2-2 tie with Oregon City and 3-2 loss to West Linn.
Canby was slated to face Lakeridge (2-4-2, 2-1-1) on the road at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 before entering the second half of conference play at home against Clackamas (3-3-1, 3-0-1) at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 3.

The Huskies (4-1-2, 1-1-1 in the Tri-Valley Conference), who tied 1-1 with Madras two days later, outscored their first seven opponents by a combined margin of 23-9.
