Sherwood will join the Three Rivers League when it jumps to Class 6A next season. The Canby boys basketball team outscored Springfield-Thurston by 18 points in the second half Dec. 14 to win its home opener, 62-53.

The Cougars trailed 31-22 at halftime, but they tied the Colts at 40-40 at the end of the third quarter and continued their surge to finish the comeback bid.

In its season opener a day earlier, Canby earned a 57-44 win on the road against Roseburg.

Canby (2-0) continues its season at 7:15 p.m. Dec. 17 on the road against Forest Grove, which prevailed in last year’s Class 6A play-in round.

The Cougars will then play at home at 7 p.m. Dec. 20 against Sherwood, which will join the Three Rivers League next season.
