The midfielder makes the Soccer America all-freshman first team after a stellar year at the University of Portland.

Canby alumnus Eddie Sanchez was named to Soccer America’s all-freshman first team earlier this month, the latest of several accolades following his standout campaign as a midfielder on the University of Portland men’s soccer team.

Sanchez was the West Coast Conference freshman of the year in Eddie Sanchez2013 and also received first-team all-league recognition after leading the WCC in overall points (27), goals (12) and game-winning goals (four).

He also ranked sixth nationally in goals per game (0.71), 10th in points per game (1.59) and 13th in total goals.

Sanchez became the eighth Pilots player in program history to be tabbed as the WCC freshman of the year and the first since Steven Evans in 2010.

Soccer America’s all-freshman first team included fellow midfielders Jordan Allen (Virginia), Ismaila Jome (UC Santa Barbara), Zeiko Lewis (Boston College), Cyle Larin (Connecticut) and Adam Najem (Akron).

The magazine also honored four forwards — Guillermo Delgado (Delaware), Jordan Morris (Stanford), Cristian Roldan (Washington) and Tommy Thompson (Indiana) — and George Mason goalkeeper Steffen Kraus on the first team. No defenders were recognized.
